Santa Rosa, CA – In an effort to reach out to Members impacted by the economic downturn and financial issues, Redwood Credit Union (RCU) hosted a Financial First Aid Workshop on Saturday, February 21, 2009. Aimed at assisting Members struggling with debt and credit issues, the event was free to RCU Members, and included informational sessions on how to create a budget; educational seminars on debt, bankruptcy and foreclosure prevention; and one-on-one consultations with certified financial counselors, advisors and loan officers.
Attendees received helpful information about a variety of topics from digging out of debt and budgeting to preventing repossession, foreclosure and bankruptcy. More than half the Members in attendance took advantage of one-on-one sessions, working with RCU staff to modify existing loans or refinance their current debts, and meeting with certified credit counselors from RCU’s financial fitness partner BALANCE to receive free budgeting and credit report assistance. Also present were United Way, with information on 2-1-1, a community hotline which connects people with various social services; Sonoma County JobLink, a local career development and job-finding resource; and Robert Half International, a staffing agency.
“We are passionately committed to helping our Members regain and maintain financial health,” said Brett Martinez, President & CEO of RCU. “The current economy has presented struggles for many of our Members, and while RCU didn’t participate in subprime lending, as our Members’ financial services partner, we are collaborating with them for education and solutions. We are here to help,” Martinez added.
