Associate Financial Advisor

Position Summary:

Provide investment, retirement, annuity and educational investment planning and advice to investment services’ Members in an assigned region and execute transactions for investment products that match Members’ needs. Serve as sales support for the Investment Group in an effort to increase productivity of an assigned Senior Financial Advisor and the overall program.

Nature and Scope:

Work with a specific Senior Financial Advisor in the assignment of servicing the smaller investment asset sized client base. Conduct regularly scheduled reviews with assigned clients to monitor client progress toward client’s financial goals.

Essential Functions:

Service

  • Provide exceptional customer service to all Member-clients.
  • Call Members referred to the Investment Department by the branch and Member Service Center to set an appointment for an investment-needs meeting.
  • Deliver annual review cards to assigned clients and provide regularly scheduled investment portfolio reviews.
  • Handle routine customer inquiries; effectively work with the back-office support personnel at vendors and broker-dealer to ensure a high degree of quality service and customer satisfaction.
  • Ensure maximum flexibility to relieve and/or assist in a variety of functions as needed.

Investment Product Sales

  • Executes trades for mutual funds, stocks, bonds, etc. as directed by client and/or CUSO Financial Services Office of Supervisory Jurisdiction (OSJ).
  • Research and provide literature on requested investment products including stocks, bonds and mutual funds.
  • Research and provide literature and information to clients regarding insurance products such as annuities.
  • Establish and maintain interactive and open communication with CUSO Financial Services and product companies.
  • Provide branch and Member Service Center staff with pertinent referral and product training.
  • Attend regular product and sales training meetings.
  • Research and solve member problems and complaints in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Prepares regular client mailings/calls for birthdays, holidays and other events as assigned.

Administration

  • Complete all transactions within all NASD and credit union procedures and regulations.
  • Research and repair all “Back to Rep” items.
  • Complete daily, weekly and monthly sales blotters and tracking reports.
  • Prepare and maintain complete and accurate client files as directed by CUSO Financial Services and RCUSG.
  • Assist Financial Advisor in preparing for Client meetings, which include ensuring that supplies of prospectuses and approved advertising material are available.
  • Complete weekly report of contacts made and send to assigned Financial Advisor and Program Manager weekly.
  • Input financial planning data into financial planning software for the Financial Advisor on an as needed basis.
  • Coordinate marketing and advertising efforts to promote Redwood Credit Union and RCUSG.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Associate Financial Advisor Development Training Program

  • The Associate Financial Advisor is responsible to complete the 18-month training program prior to any advancement or promotion to Financial Advisor. This program is detailed in a separate document.

Minimum Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of financial products and services.
  • Knowledge of business or economics.
  • Working and current knowledge of investment and insurance products.
  • Working knowledge of the financial services industry.
  • Excellent organizational and administrative skills.
  • Excellent services skills.
  • Skill in the operation of personal computers, investment related software and printers.
  • Skill in the operation of modern office equipment.
  • Ability to be self-motivated and directed.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to effectively work on the telephone to obtain investment information.
  • Ability to coordinate a variety of activities simultaneously and prioritize work.
  • Ability and desire to work in a team environment.
  • Ability to effectively promote and sell credit union products and services.
  • Ability to work weekends and travel to one mandatory conference.
  • Ability to analyze situations and recommend workable solutions for Members.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a diverse group of people.
  • Ability to manage time efficiently and effectively.
  • Ability to follow through on tasks.

Licenses and Certification

  • Must maintain a valid California Driver’s License
  • Must maintain Securities Series 7, 63, 65 and/or 66 and California Life/Health Insurance License.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift 20 pounds.
  • Ability to bend, stoop, sit, walk, twist and turn.
  • Ability to use a computer keyboard and calculator.
  • Work environment is indoors with a majority of the time sitting at a desk.

Education/Experience

A combination of education and experience equivalent to an associates degree and four years progressively responsible investment sales experience with a credit union, bank or investment company.
