CarFax is an independent service that is not affiliated with Redwood Credit Union (RCU) or RCU Services Group (RCUSG). Although CarFax can be a useful tool for consumers that wish to learn more about a particular vehicle that they are interested in purchasing, RCU and RCUSG do not endorse CarFax and cannot be held responsible for fees or charges incurred while using this service. It is recommended that users carefully read the terms and conditions information on the CarFax website before continuing.

How CarFax Works:

• On the CarFax homepage, enter a vehicle identification number (VIN) in the space provided.
• CarFax will perform a search of its national database for information about the vehicle, and display a Free CarFax Record Check. If information about the vehicle exists within the CarFax database, a results window will appear that confirms the auto’s make and model, as well as the number of records found.

  *Please note that the records indicated do not necessarily reflect a negative vehicle history, and the Free CarFax Record Check will not provide details regarding these records, unless the user agrees to a fee. These records only indicate that there is information regarding the vehicle available within the CarFax database.

• If the user agrees to the fee, they will be prompted to submit payment before continuing to the detailed vehicle history report. It is recommended that users view the available sample reports before agreeing to these charges.
• The detailed report may include information such as:
  • Odometer Check
  • Title Check
  • Problem Check
  • Registration Check

The information provided by the CarFax service can be of value to consumers interested in learning more about a vehicle’s history before purchase, especially those involved in a private-party sale. If you plan to purchase a vehicle from a dealership, ask your sales representative if they can run a CarFax report for you.
