The holiday season will be here before you know it. While there is still time to set aside funds for holiday spending, you can also prepare with these holiday budget tips to help you get the most from your money.
- Make a spending plan
Start with a realistic idea of how much you’ll spend during the holidays. Estimate by reviewing how much you spent last year. Don’t forget to include gifts, food, entertainment, and travel expenses. Then create a spending plan and stick to it. For help creating a plan, visit RCU’s Financial Wellness Center and check out our budget tool.
- Track your spending
After you create a plan, track your spending. Keep a log of everything you’ve bought and how much it cost, including gifts, wrapping paper, decorations, cards, and postage. This will ensure you stay within your budget.
- Shop early
Instead of waiting until the last minute to hit the stores (you know who you are!), give yourself time to comparison shop and find the best deals.
- Cash in your debit or credit card rewards points
Earning rewards points with your RCU debit or credit card? The holidays are a great time to redeem your points for cash that can be used for holiday shopping, as well as gift cards, travel, merchandise, and more!
Don’t forget, you can earn:
- 1.25 points for every $1 spent with your RCU Visa Signature card
- 1 point for every $1 spent with your RCU Visa Platinum credit card
- 1 point for every $2 spent with your RCU Visa debit card.*
