Six Reasons to Shop Local

Apr 27, 2018

Shop localIn support of Small Business Week in May, it’s a great time to shop local. According to the Small Business Administration, there are about 29.6 million small businesses in the United States creating jobs and stimulating the local economy—and many reasons to support your local ones. Here are just six:

  • Support the Community

Local businesses are more likely to reinvest your money and remain loyal to the local community.

  • Personalized Service

The personal touch you get with a smaller local retailer feels good and may result in a purchase more suited to your needs.

  • Create Local Jobs

According to the House Committee on Small Business, over the last 15 years, small businesses have created more than 64% of new jobs in the United States. Shopping close to home creates jobs for family and friends so they can work closer to home.

  • Keep Tax Money Local

When you buy local, more of your tax dollars remain in the community, supporting infrastructure such as roads, education, and fire services.

  • Encourage Entrepreneurship

By supporting local entrepreneurs, you encourage innovative ideas that can make your community a better place to live.

  • Keep Your Hometown Charm
  • A vibrant downtown scene can help preserve that hometown charm and the local landmarks you’ve come to love.

Like you, Redwood Credit Union is committed to supporting our community. We’re a Go Local member and believe in giving back to the businesses that make this a place we all love to live.
