Document Shredding Event Helps More Than 365 Mendocino County Residents Protect Confidential Data
Ukiah, Calif – Redwood Credit Union (RCU) hosted a free document shredding event at its Ukiah branch on Saturday, August 25, 2018. Approximately 365 local residents brought old financial documents and other confidential paperwork—15,800 lbs in total—to be shredded securely on-site by Shred-IT. Approximately 1,000 lbs of electronic waste (e-waste) was also disposed of safely by Conservation Corps North Bay.
“Shredding sensitive documents—such as old financial statements and bills—is one of the best precautions people can take against identity theft, so we were happy to once again provide this service to our community,” said Matt Martin, RCU’s vice president of community and government relations.
Voluntary donations were accepted at the event for the Humane Society of Inland Mendocino County and the nonprofit was in attendance with adoptable pets, two of which found homes that day.
The Ukiah event marks the end of RCU’s annual Shred-a-Thon season. Events were held earlier this year in Marin, Napa, and Sonoma Counties. To view a video of a shred event, visit www.redwoodcu.org/shred.
