How the Right Vehicle Strategy Can Drive Business Growth
September 21, 2026
As your business grows, so do the demands on your vehicles. What may have worked when you were starting out can quickly become inefficient when you’re serving more customers, covering larger territories, or managing a growing team.
If expansion is on the horizon, it may be time to evaluate whether your current vehicles are helping your business move forward or holding it back.
Signs It’s Time to Upgrade Your Vehicles
Many businesses wait until a vehicle breaks down before considering a replacement. But a proactive approach can help avoid disruptions and unexpected expenses.
Consider updating your fleet if you’re experiencing:
Rising maintenance and repair costs
Increased vehicle downtime
Difficulty meeting customer demand
Higher fuel expenses
Safety or reliability concerns
Replacing aging vehicles before they become a problem can help improve productivity and keep your business running smoothly.
Choose Vehicles That Support Your Operations
Every business has different transportation needs. The key is selecting vehicles that align with how your team works every day.
Ask yourself:
How much cargo or equipment do employees transport?
How many miles are driven each week?
Do drivers operate primarily in cities, rural areas, or both?
Are specialized features or upfits required?
Taking the time to match vehicles to your operational needs can improve efficiency and help maximize your investment.
Think Long-Term, Not Just Upfront Costs
The lowest purchase price isn’t always the best value. When evaluating business vehicles, consider the bigger picture.
Factors that affect long-term costs include:
Fuel efficiency
Routine maintenance requirements
Insurance expenses
Vehicle lifespan
Resale value
Businesses may also benefit from potential tax advantages. Section 179 may allow you to deduct the full purchase price of qualifying vehicles and equipment in the year they are purchased, helping improve your cash flow.1
A vehicle with lower operating costs may deliver greater savings over time, even if the initial investment is higher.
Financing Can Preserve Working Capital
Many business owners prefer to keep cash available for hiring, inventory, marketing, and other growth initiatives. Financing vehicles can help preserve capital while giving your business access to the transportation resources it needs today.
Flexible financing options can also make it easier to add vehicles as your business expands.

PPP Forgiveness Application Deadline
Congress passed The Economic Aid Act which changed the deferment period from 6 months post covered period to 10 months post covered period. For example, if your covered period ended June 30, 2021, under the new guidelines the earliest your first loan payment wouldn’t be due until April 2022, and you have until then to request forgiveness. Please use the following calculation to help you identify when your forgiveness will be due:
PPP borrowers may select a covered period anywhere from 8 weeks to 24 weeks.
RCU is automatically calculating your loan due date based on a 24-week covered period, if you intend on using a shorter covered period please inform us immediately as this will impact your due date.
Your correct deadline will be reflected in your online banking account.
If all or part of your PPP loan is not forgiven, your first loan payment will be due the first of the following month after a decision is made by the SBA.
